Since 1954 Commons Development and its predecessor company, Robert Homes, have been developing and building some of New England's finest residential communities, including single family neighborhoods, condominiums, and apartments. Founders H. Robert McBride and Robert S. Wildes built Robert Homes into the leading home and apartment builder in Middlesex County during the 1960's and 70's. In 1989, their sons, Jack McBride and Bob Wildes, formed Commons Development to carry on that strong tradition and history to continue.

They have experience in a broad range of activities from land acquisition, site planning, site engineering, architectural design, road and utility construction, single family and multi-family construction, finance, and marketing and sales. Jack and Bob believe that their success is due to careful planning and a company-wide commitment to customer service.

They utilize the services of some of the most talented architects, engineers, land planners, and tradesmen in the industry. It is their dedication to performance and quality that has made them successful.

They have delivered over a thousand homes and McBride says the company's future is in building a mix of community types. "We are in the housing business, but our real strength is in building communities. Whether the design is for families, singles, or seniors, the fundamental goal is the same — to create quality environments where people want to live. Our fathers taught us to do things right and stand behind the homes we build. We work hard to meet that standard."
